Last year, Speakeasy Solutions hosted its first summer camp for children, Work, Craft & Play! The camp sought to provide students with an holistic vacation, educational programme. As such, camp-goers were provided with a range of different activities: academic revision, field trips, film, Health & Family Life Education, arts and crafts and games. Last summer, we also planned to host a Creative Writing Workshop for SEA students, but had to cancel the programme due to low registration. This year, we'll be hosting our second summer camp, but have decided to re-focus the programming. Of course, students will still be exposed to a fun, eductaional environment that presents them with a wide range of learning material and experiences. However, we've changed WORK to WRITE and here's a note on the difference:
Write, Craft & Play! is a three-week summer camp that will use creative writing, arts & crafts, games, field trips and film to help children develop a love for Caribbean culture and literature and boost their critical thinking skills. Students will receive instruction in poetry, fiction, storytelling and spoken word as well as participate in fun reading activities.
Here's why we've made the change:
We've merged the Creative Writing Workshop and the Summer Camp programmes into one fun, cohesive programme through which we'll be providing our expertise as well as engaging some excellent partners.
Reading, writing and helping children to love reading and writing is sort of our thing!
Reading and writing are the essential tools for academic success as they're used across the board in nearly every subject. If they're not practiced, particularly during vacation breaks, skill levels can decrease.
We're keeping in line with the services Speakeasy Solutions provides yearround and our mission to use teaching materials that are empowering and represent positive images of the Caribbean and wider African Diaspora. (Hence, the focus on Caribbean literature).

Write, Craft & Play! takes place from July 13th - July 31st, 2015.
Open to children ages 7-12.
